Game Day!

Parents, thank you in advance for reading, and please be sure that your daughter reads these broadcasts as well.

GAME DAY #2!

I hope you are all well and had a great week!   I’m excited to see you in a few hours at the HS turf.

Some points before the first whistle:

1.     6pm Tonight - Please be at the turf, READY TO GO.

2.     Jersey - We will be wearing White (That is the home color-we wore Blue last week because the team was still waiting for thier jerseys to be shipped to them)

3.     Mouthpieces -  Be sure you have them!

4.     NO JEWELRY or TAPED EARNINGS – The refs will NOT permit you to play with either.

As we look towards to tonight,  it is all about getting better every time you play.  It is about RUNNING, SUPPORTING your teammates and RIP’N net.  As you begin preparing for tonight’s game, be sure you come ready, be focused during warmups and RUN when that first whistle goes off.

We started off a bit slow in our first game last week (though Glass won the first draw and rip’d a goal right away!).  Props to you.

As we discussed, numbers do not lie.  In the first half, we scored 2 and our opponent scored 9, hence a 7 point goal deferential.  Sometimes, when teams begin a bit lackluster like we did, they quit in the 2nd half.  But not this team!  We regrouped at half and in the 2nd half,  YOU PLAYED!

In the 2nd half, you scored 3 to their 5 with a goal deferential of 2!  You dramatically cut down the mistakes and turn up the effort.  For those sports enthusiast reading this, you know this is more than impressive.  We started off slow, we were tied, not that focused and got behind, by a strong number.  And yet, the team regrouped at halftime and turned it around!  This is another example of just how special this team is!  How you stayed in the fight and increased your competitiveness is rare!

As we discussed at the end of the game,  just imagine if you came out in the 1st half, the way we did in the 2nd!?  The entire game would be different.

So come today, ready and focused.  Start the first whistle right where you ended last game.

Who is willing to run?

5/6 Select FIRST GAME Info/Practice Recap

Parents, thank you in advance for reading, and please be sure that your daughter reads these broadcasts as well.

GAME DAY!

Who is excited for your first Select Game!?!  Talk about perfect weather for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!   Some points before the first whistle:

  1. 6pm Tonight - Please be at the turf, READY TO GO.
  2. Jersey – We will be wearing Blue
  3. Mouthpieces!  Be sure you have them!
  4. NO JEWELRY or TAPED EARNINGS – The refs will NOT permit you to play with either.

And before you come to RUN, SUPPORT your Teammates and RIP the net, I must quickly talk about Wednesday’s practice!  OMGOSH!  It was awesome.

Throughout the season, the vision is to bring in other coaches and college players to help expose you to more lacrosse.  Wednesday, Meg “Reddy” Gravison joined us!  Reddy was a STANDOUT Draw Specialist at UMass, consistently the #1 or #2 in the country during her tenure.  After college, Reddy coached at UNH before joining us full time at REVlax.  Reddy is our Recruiting Director who has worked to help place over 650 players in college.  Reddy is also on staff on Andover’s Varsity team. We are thankful that Reddy could make time for us on Thursday. And get this!  She will be on our sideline coaching you all tonight!

As you know, I have been coaching for 20+ years and could not be more impressed with your effort, happiness, smiles and improvement Thursday.  Let me tell you, it was a very special moment watch you jog to your water between a station and then run back.  Parents, the entire team ran back!  Players, you all have come so far in a short amount of time.

For those who could not attend, we continued working on the following concepts:

  1. Our Focus is to Focus.  Focus on listening, improving, moving the ball, hitting bottom right corner and not opening up our hips on defense.
  2. We always use names and celebrate the awesome.
  3. Speed rules.  It is about running fast.
  4. Looking up and moving the ball right away
  5. Get Your Reps

For practice, we continued to work on our wrist strength and smoothness with throws and pops.   Players are beginning to lead!  Fiona, brought the group in to fix the Fast Two Pass Drill. The group then went back out and DOMINATED.  We then continued with the cross field fast break drill and let’s just say the entire team executed it faster!   We then split into stations, one focusing on draws and one focusing on passing to a cutting player who RIPS a goal!  We, of course, concluded with Get Your Reps 1v1. This is the drill where there are no lines, no turns.  If you want to play, you step up and play, aka, to get your reps.

This time even more players participated.  As the sun went behind the buildings and it turned 7:30pm, Kate fought for the last ground ball and then for the first time, TWO players stepped out to play D!  What a battle!  Then something magical occurred, every single player either grabbed a ball to play or sprinted to help Kate!!!!

Get excited, have fun and RUN.  No need to be nervous tonight!  We are going to have a blast,

Lukas

5/6 Select Updates

Happy Wednesday Team,

Parents, thank you in advance for reading, and please be sure your daughter reads these broadcasts as well.

We had our 2nd practice on Monday and you all worked HARD.  Talk about a practice where you literally did not stop!   For those who could not attend, we worked on the following concepts:

For practice, we continued the focus on moving the ball in the air by working with our sticks through one handed throws and pops, then we moved to FAST Shuttles and then FAST GB’s.  We then worked on a cross field fast break drill, spent time on proper defense and concluded with Get Your Reps 1v1.  This is where there is no line; whoever wants to step up, steps up.  Props to Fiona for out rep’n the team.  Snaps!

And players, we are going to have to take another WIDE EYED Selfie tonight because the last one was BLURRY!

A few reminders:

  1. We have practice tonight from 6:30-7:30pm at Doherty following Blue and Gold Practice (5:30-6:30pm).
  2. Please wear your jersey.  You can wear it over a sweatshirt/rain jacket.
  3. Please ALWAYS email if you cannot make a practice/game.

See you in a few hours!
